There’s something about the trees…
That’s what I thought when I woke up in the car, after a 9-hour drive from Charlottesville, VA, as I stared out the window at the quiet, peaceful squares, glowing in the dim, evening light for the first time. After moving to Savannah and later graduating from The Savannah College of Art and Design, my design career took me to New York City, but an undeniable magnetism eventually led me back to The South. It seems there has always been one constant – a protector and keeper of the past, present, and future – radiating with hope from the heart of the city. It has always been the trees. This became the seed of inspiration for creating a story based on the metaphor of a forest. The seed, roots, tree rings, branches, canopy, and overarching forest theme are a lens for looking at the vast, interconnected layers of people, places, landscapes, history and more, beginning with the gateway of Savannah and stretching far outside. A forest is not just a forest.
Named after Savannah’s original nickname, Forest City of The South® features Savannah and many visual and historical aspects of The Low Country. Through photography and storytelling, I strive to unearth the true soul and spirit of this mystical place. Like the acorn, the mission is to spread a message of hope.
Finally, I cannot do this journey without you. Handmade greeting cards may be available in the online shop, at times. A portion of the proceeds are donated monthly to the Savannah Tree Foundation. Thank you for joining me!
P.S.: May I invite you to visit Shannon Scott Tours for a peek inside the last 8 years of love, heart and devotion. Owned and operated by my dear friend, creative partner, and soul companion whom I met when I first moved to Savannah, 20 years ago. You can read more on his life and work here.
